How to Change a Diaper in a Car

You're in the car and the smell has become unbearable. What to do when beautiful baby needs that stinky diaper/nappy changed. Follow these steps and diaper changing will be a breeze.

Steps

  1. Get out of the car and open the boot (trunk).
  2. Clear space in the boot for baby and check for sharp things.
  3. Lay down nappy (diaper) changing mat. If only have a carrier bag then carefully rip the sides to make it big enough
  4. Lay new nappy down in middle of mat.
  5. Place wet wipes and empty carrier bag by mat.
  6. Get baby out of car.
  7. Lay baby down on changing mat or carrier bag. Make sure baby's bottom is positioned above new clean nappy.
  8. Open dirty nappy and clean bottom with wet wipes. Keep adding dirty wet wipes into dirty nappy.
  9. Lift baby and clean behind.
  10. Whilst lifting, slide dirty nappy out. Baby will be on new clean nappy.
  11. Place dirty nappy with wipes into nappy bag/carrier bag and tie up the bag.
  12. Do up clean nappy.
  13. Dispose of dirty nappy in the bag, if possible. Otherwise, keep in boot until see a bin.
  14. Use antibacterial alcohol wash on hands.
  15. Kiss baby.
  16. Place baby back in car.
  17. Continue on journey with happy baby and parent.

Tips

  • If baby likes to kick legs when nappy is released then be sure to hold baby's ankles with one hand.

  • You will need:
  • Portable nappy (diaper) changing mat (or in emergency a carrier bag/towel)
  • New clean nappy (diaper)
  • Wet wipes
  • Empty carrier bag
  • Anti-bacterial alcohol hand wash (hand cleaner)
  • Plastic bag to toss the nappy (diaper) into the bin
